Turkey Day Travelers- Part 4


Family members and friends received weary travelers at 10:45 a.m. at Sacramento International Airport. All were glad to be off the plane and in the arms of their loved ones for Thanksgiving.

Airport security lines at Sacramento International were long on November 22, 2007, but moved quickly during the morning rush around 10:30 a.m. Security staff was increased to accomidate the record 4.1 million travelers excepted to fly over the Thanksgiving hoilday.

JetBlue flight attendants Dana Harris and Rob Padilla have other plans for their Thanksgivings without their families. Rob has planned an "orphan party" with friends who are also spending the holiday alone, while Dana will arrive back in Long Beach at 12:30 a.m. and "just wants to get in bed," she said.

Alicia Gonzales called Chico police at 1:30 p.m. on Friday,October 19, 2007 when a tree trapped her car in the driveway of her home on West Second Avenue and Warner Street. Windy weather knocked down this 12-foot tree during the previous stormy night.

Environmental Portrait


Antonio Nava, 29, has been a professional tattoo artist for 11 years. Saturday, Sept. 29, Nava gave an old friend from Petaluma an elegant lily on her left shoulder. October marks the one year aniversary of his tattoo parlor, First Love Tattoo. After working at tattoo shops up and down California for a total of nine years, Nava finally has settled in Chico and shares ownership of First Love Tattoo with his brother, Juan.

Portrait Assignment



The Chico World Music Festival brought many interesting artists and vendors this weekend to the Chico State campus. This Davis-based, West African-born trinket collector, Mamadou Traore, sold woven baskets, glass beads and jewlery, and fertility statues. He spoke to each customer in a calm voice, like an old friend. He happily offered a free licorice chewing stick even if a purchase wasn't made.
